You can quickly increase your typing and transcription speed by using Word shortcut keys. Microsoft Word has 200+ keyword shortcuts to help you increase your typing speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, pressing CTRL+B on the keyboard changes the selected text to bold. This is much faster than clicking Bold<\/strong> on the Formatting<\/strong> toolbar or selecting Bold<\/strong> in the Font<\/strong> dialog box (Format<\/strong> menu) to bold text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another feature that can come in handy for typists and transcriptionists is copying and pasting.  You can copy a word or a set of words (CTRL+C) that is repeated often in a dictation and then paste it (CTRL+V) over and over again when the word is repeated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Find (CTRL + F)  function can be useful for transcriptionists to search for words or phrases in text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I use the Replace (CTRL + H) function a lot. For example, you can easily replace a word that you misspelled several times with the correct spelling. Or you may misunderstand a word when you first started listening to the recording. And after becoming familiar with the content, you realize your mistake and can correct the word easily. Or you can use a short word or abbreviation that you want to replace later with a longer word or multiple words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Copy the selected text or object: CTRL+C<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cut the selected text or object: CTRL+X<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paste text or an object: CTRL+V<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make letters bold: CTRL+B<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make letters italic: CTRL+I<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make letters underline: CTRL+U<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Decrease font size: CTRL+SHIFT+<\u00a0 (hold CTRLand SHIFT down simultaneously, then hit <)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Increase font size: CTRL+SHIFT+><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Undo the last action: CTRL+Z<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Redo the last action: CTRL+Y<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Create a non-breaking space: CTRL+SHIFT+SPACEBAR<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Print the shortcut keys you find useful and keep them handy until you've memorized them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
