Babbletype is always looking for capable transcriptionists, proofreaders (transcription editors), and translators. This company provides transcription and translation services.
Their website says that they are always looking for new transcriptionists, editors, and translators to add to their team, but that they are selective.
What Babbletype calls “proofreading jobs” are actually “transcription editing jobs.”
Proofreaders or transcription editors verify and edit transcripts done by other transcribers.
They ensure that the content is accurately transcribed and check the transcript against the audio recording.
They must edit typing, spelling, punctuation, or grammar errors and may need to improve unclear content.
Here’s how the company describes the job description of the transcription proofreaders:
“Transcriptionists capture the wrong meaning, or skip content, or mark small stretches they cannot understand. When proofreading transcripts, it’s always essential to have access to the original recording. You don’t listen to the whole thing, but you do check suspect content, and listen to sections marked as unclear to try to clean them up.”

My Comments:
- There are too many complaints about Babbletype to recommend this company.
- The main complaint is getting paid only half of the regular pay for failed assignments/reviews.
- Different reviewers have different standards (but that is a common complaint about transcription companies).
- People also complain that the spreadsheet that provides the assignments is confusing and workers manipulate it to take jobs away from each other.
- One positive about this company is that they routinely provide feedback on the mistakes you’ve made so you can improve. This makes it a good place for newbies to build up some experience and learn transcription (if you don’t mind the low pay when starting out).
- Very flexible hours. Work at your own schedule. Choose your own workdays and times.
- Easy work.
- Seems to be easy to get accepted but it can take up to 3 hours to take the tests.
- They don’t have enough work for people who want to work a certain number of hours.
