Requirements:

Type-It-Up values experience but does not require it.

They only require that you pass their transcription test and meet their accuracy, formatting and reliability standards. As long as you can deliver good work and are reliable, they are happy to work with you as one of their transcriptionists.

If you are outside the United States, you can transcribe for their non-U.S. clients. They have many clients outside the U.S. so getting work is not a problem if you provide quality transcripts.

Transcription Test

• To get transcription jobs at 1-800-type-it-up you will need to fill out their job application first. You will receive the testing materials immediately upon submission of your application and entrance exam fee.
• There is no time limit on the entrance exam. You can work on the test at your leisure and email your completed test transcripts when you're ready.
• They do not have a speed requirement. They are interested in accuracy –  not speed and are looking for the highest accuracy possible. Proofreading your work word for word against the audio is critical and a high-quality set of headphones is necessary to get high accuracy.

• They require accurate formatting and style. Unlike most other transcription companies, they transcribe nearly all files in a production-style table template to make the transcript look good and there may be a slight learning curve for transcribing within the table template.

IMPORTANT NOTE: They are now requiring a fee to do the test. I normally warn people about paying fees to get a job. However, this is a legitimate, established company with a good reputation and one of the best paying transcription companies.

Equipment requirements:

• You need Express Scribe transcription software (free version). Express Scribe Pro (one-time fee of $59.95) is not required but you'll need the Pro version if you want to transcribe video files.
• You will also need a pair of headphones. They recommend the AKG Y55 White DJ-Ready Headphones with Enriched Bass, Snug Fit and In-Line Remote/Microphone with Volume Control, White.
• Microsoft Office. If you don't have Microsoft Office, their transcription jobs page tells you how they can provide you with a licensed monthly subscription to Microsoft Office. Or you can also purchase a one-year Microsoft Office subscription from Amazon.

Pay:

1-888-TYPE-IT-UP pays the best starting rate for transcription jobs online for beginners. They mention that they are one of the highest-paying transcription companies on the internet.

Pay rate ranges from $0.50 to $3 per recorded minute ($30 to $180 per recorded hour), with the average pay rate ranging from $1 to $1.50 per recorded minute ($60 to $90 per recorded hour).

We strive as much as possible to pay our transcriptionists $1 to $2 per audio minute and up depending on audio quality and special features. Our full pay scale ranges from $0.50 per audio minute ($30 per audio hour) to $3 per audio minute ($180 per audio hour).

Our lowest pay rate is $30 per audio hour, and this only applies in cases where clients will only agree to pay $1 per audio minute or $60 per audio hour. We understand this is far too low, but due to competitors' predatory pricing, we do allow clients to submit files with reasonable audio quality and slower turnaround times for only $1 per audio minute.

We do not offer periodic raises but rather file-specific bonuses. Pay rates vary per file depending on the client's budget and your past performance.

They pay twice a month via PayPal. You need to submit an invoice via PayPal approximately 10 calendar days prior to payment. If you are outside the United States and your country does not support PayPal, they can pay you via Payoneer or Western Union.
