General transcription jobs from home. No previous transcription experience is required.

• AccuTran Global prefers people with experience but they will hire new transcriptionists who pass the test.
• Although they previously recruited transcriptionists in Canada, US, and UK, their website currently states that they are only recruiting US transcriptionists.
• You must complete a questionnaire and pass four tests: transcription, spelling and punctuation, comprehension, and editing.
• They require a 70 wpm typing speed minimum. Both quality and speed are important. They expect a 3x to 4x TAT. Most beginners won’t be able to do this.
• You must possess a good general knowledge and be up to date on current events and world affairs.
• Background or knowledge of banking, insurance, pharmaceuticals, electronics, real estate or manufacturing is preferred.
• Being fluent in a second language is also preferred.
• They provide software for PCs; Mac users can use ExpressScribe.
• Headphones are required.
• A foot pedal is required when working your second peak reporting season with them.
• Audio is transcribed into Word, saved as a .txt, and uploaded back to their site.

Overview

• They do a lot of financial transcription. You'll transcribe financial sector conference calls, earnings release conference calls, financial section conference presentations and interviews, and analyst day meetings.
• They have work for transcriptionists, transcription reviewers, and editors.
• They have several peak seasons with plenty of work but offer no guarantees of work in the off-season months.
• They supply you with researched terminology. You can use Google and corporate websites to do limited research only when required.
• They do not accept employment inquiries by phone.
• They do not want to receive emails about job opportunities.

Pay

• AccuTran pays transcribers per word instead of per audio hour.
• The starting rate is $0.005/word for basic audio and their top rate is $0.0066 for difficult and/or foreign audio done by a senior transcriber.
• They also give a 20 percent bonus for calls from non-English speaking countries and calls containing a lot of technical terminology.
• They pay once a month by check or through Paypal.
• You can be paid in Canadian or US dollars.

• NOTE: There are 2 companies with similar names. AccuTran Global is a legitimate Canadian transcription company. Do not confuse them with Accutran (Accutran.net) who provides medical transcription or Superior Global.
• This company is always hiring but work is not guaranteed outside their peak seasons.
• Although they accept beginners, they may have a hard time to pass the test. You need a high typing speed and good language skills to pass the test.
• Your schedule is not as flexible as with other companies. They require a minimum of 4 hours a day during peak seasons. They need transcribers at specific times and on certain days of the week. The majority of the work must be done immediately.
• They only pay once a month.
• The staff is friendly.
