Get transcription jobs for beginners at Quicktate!

Are you interested in no-experience transcription work from home?

Quicktate is one of the easiest transcription companies to get accepted with and get transcription jobs for beginners when you have no transcription experience.

Overview

  • You’ll transcribe voice memos, letters, phone calls, conference calls, speeches and other audio files. The majority of files are voicemail messages that are easy to transcribe. Some recordings may be just 2-3 minutes while others can be up to several hours.
  • IDictate transcribes all types of files except voicemail messages.
  • Flexible hours. You can set your own hours and work as much or as little as you want.
  • They’ll send you emails to let you know that files are available. You log in to the company's system anytime you want to start receiving files and all available audio files will appear. You can preview the file, see if the file is short or long and you can accept or reject it.
  • The Quicktate transcription program plays the audio files and gives you features to easily go back and re-listen to any portion of the audio file. When you have a file that's longer than a few minutes, you may want to download the file to your desktop and type it into your favorite transcription software.

Requirements to get Quicktate and iDictate transcription jobs for beginners

  • Quicktate recruits transcriptionists worldwide but you must provide a tax ID number.
  • No prior experience is required for general transcription as long as you pass the test.
  • Transcription work includes general, legal transcription, and medical transcription. The info I’m providing here is for general transcription.
  • Languages: Choose English, French, and Spanish transcription work.
  • You need excellent English language skills (for English transcription work).
  • You must be able to listen to voice files and accurately type what you hear with correct spelling and punctuation.
  • You’ll have to take the test for each language or specialty (e.g. general or medical transcription) you are interested in. You can also test to analyze audio files.
  • You must pass a test and quiz, fill out a short form, and provide three references.  If you do well on the test you should hear back from them but it may take a few weeks because they receive many requests.
  • No resume is required.
  • Once you've submitted high-quality work for a while (or scored well on the QuickTate typing test), you may qualify to test for iDictate which pays more.
  • You must follow instructions.
  • You can’t have felony or misdemeanor convictions on your record. You must pay $15 for a background check after you pass the Quiz and Typing Tests before getting work for Quicktate because of the sensitive nature of some of the transcription files.
  • They want absolute honesty, integrity, reliability and confidentiality.

Pay

  • Quicktate pays 1/4 cent per word (or 4 words for 1 cent) for general and legal transcription and 1/2 cent per word for medical transcription.
  • They pay 1/2 cent per word so you'll double your pay when you get accepted with iDictate.
  • They pay weekly through Paypal. Pay is always on time.

How to get better paid transcription jobs

Quicktate pays very little but don't let that discourage you. After you get some experience, you'll be able to get well-paid transcription jobs.

Taking a good transcription course will help you increase your transcription income. I highly recommend the transcription course by Janet Shaughnessy. Her course will give you the knowledge, skills and confidence you’ll need to find high-paying transcription jobs.

How to Apply for a transcription job with Quicktate.

My comments

  • Quicktate is one of the easiest companies to get started with. The application and the work is easier than most.
  • The pay of Quicktate is lower than most but when promoted to work for iDictate, their pay is double.
  • The availability of work is inconsistent.
  • It’s a good company to build experience. But you’ll want to move on to better-paying companies when you feel confident in your skills to do so.
  • The transcription style used at Quicktate is simple and is not transferable to other transcription companies. However mentioning your experience with Quicktate on your resume will tell employers that you have some transcription experience and can follow instructions.
  • The majority of people are happy working for Quicktate. A common complaint about iDictate is inconsistency in formats and requirements between the different reviewers and lack of communication.

If you are serious about doing transcription from home, you'll want to get a foot pedal and transcription software. check out this complete transcription starter kit at Amazon. The kit includes Express Scribe Pro transcription software, USB foot pedal, and USB transcription headset!

  1. Hi Ruzan, as The Quicktate application page mentions, after you pass the Quiz and the typing test, Quicktate will run a background check on you and you must agree to pay the $20 cost of the background check. I always recommend being cautious when any employer is asking for money up front and to research the company. I know that Quicktate is an established and legitimate company. The $20 is not an application fee but is to pay for the cost of a background check. And you only pay this after you pay the test.

  2. Quicktate is a great company to get hired with if you have no transcription experience and are looking for online transcription jobs for beginners. Transcription from home is very popular and pays very well but most of the companies require experience. This is one of the fewer companies that hires inexperienced people as long as you have a fast typing speed.

    • Please help! I’ve taken the Quicktate Quiz twice and failed! …I don’t understand…there must be a trick question… Can anyone help me with the quiz? I really want to get started transcribing as soon as possible. Also, there doesn’t seem to be any phone number, by which to contact them. Any thoughts?
