Data entry jobs from home. Can you really get legitimate data entry jobs from home?

Yes, you can. There are many legitimate, freelance data entry gigs out there.

But one of the hardest parts about finding legitimate work-from-home opportunities is weeding out the scams. So, before applying for any data entry jobs, please read my blog post, How to Avoid Data Entry Scams

18 Legitimate Data Entry Jobs from Home

1 – The CSI Companies

The CSI Companies is a national recruiting and staffing firm that connects top companies with top talent for short-term and long-term work, contracts-to-hire, and direct-hire positions. A lot of their job postings are for skilled workers including quality improvement coordinators, billing processors, mortgage processing assistants and more. But they also fill positions for administrative and clerical support jobs such as data entry clerks, internet research data entry specialists, accounts receivable clerks, and customer service representatives.

2 – Lionbridge (The Smart Crowd)

Lionbridge Crowd is the recruitment team for Lionbridge Enterprise Crowdsourcing. Lionbridge is a global company that recruits for work-from-home and telecommute positions with flexible working hours. Lionbridge has been providing worldwide work-from-home opportunities for over 20 years. Their clients are some of the largest companies in the world.

Work-from-home jobs from Lionbridge include data services, global testing and language services, ad evaluators, internet safety evaluators, internet search reviewers, raters, and more. Rating jobs involve analyzing and providing feedback on text, web pages, images, and other types of information for search engines using an online tool.

You must complete at least one placement evaluation before you can be considered for work. You will only be allowed to work on those tasks related to the skills you’ve demonstrated.

You can apply through any of their online advertisements or you can visit the company's crowdsourcing opportunities page. Check their job opportunities here.

At the time of this posting, I only found educational sales consultants jobs but some people have reported that Working Solutions occasionally has data entry jobs.

5 – Axion Data Services

Several work-from-home sites mention that this company has data entry jobs from home but Axion's website says that they rarely hire and never advertise. You also have to pay a fee to get into their database.

From the company:

“Looking to put your data entry skills to work? We have a dedicated, stable workforce at Axion Data Entry Services, so openings are very rare. While we rarely have any openings, when we do, you will need to be registered in our database and have prior data entry experience. To be considered for a data entry contractor position, you must register in our database, for which there is a nominal charge of $5, $7, or $10 depending on how long you want your name retained in the database.”

Great alternatives to data entry jobs
that can make you much more money

If you just want to make some extra money, then check out some of the data entry jobs here. But if you want to use your typing skills and make more money, then I recommend becoming a virtual assistant or doing transcription work from home.

Proofreading jobs from home

Proofreading is great work from home and it pays much better than data entry jobs.

ZipRecruiter mentions that the average income of a freelance editor is $51,417/year.

A proofreader checks documents and corrects errors.

Caitlin Pyle makes over $43,000 a year by working as a freelance proofreader. She also helps other people get work from home as a proofreader with her proofreading course.  To learn more about getting proofreading work from home, how to become a proofreader, and what’s involved, check out Catilin's FREE workshop for proofreaders

Freelance writing jobs from home

Many writers are now working from home as freelancers.

According to ZipRecruiter, the part-time income of freelance writers ranges from 24,000 to 115,000. And some writers make much more.

If you're interested in getting writing work from home even if you have no experience, Holly's course, Earn More Writing can help you get started making money as a freelance writer.  She also has a FREE writing workshop,  “How to Build a Six-Figure Writing Career.”

Become a virtual assistant

You can start a virtual assistant business and offer data entry services to your own clients.

When I was running a secretarial business, I had clients who gave me data entry work. But entry was only a small part of my secretarial income. Transcription was a much better profit maker.

However, as a virtual assistant, you can provide many services that pay very well. Check out some of my blog posts about virtual assisting:

Bookkeeping

If you enjoy working with numbers, you may be interested in starting your own bookkeeping or accounting business. These can be quite lucrative, especially during tax season.

Small businesses will often hire an independent accountant to help them with paying bills, keeping track of all income, payroll, and filing sales tax and quarterly taxes.

You can run an accounting business from your home. You can receive information from your clients through email or mail or FedEx. Your clients can drop off documents at your home or you can pick them up at their office.

This is a business that, once off the ground, will grow all by itself. Once you get the number of clients you want, you’ll most likely continue to pick up all the clients you need through word of mouth. As long as you’re good at what you do, you’ll be set for as long as you want.

You'll need a computer, accounting software, and some office equipment. Quickbooks is the favorite software of accountants. FreshBooks is a very popular invoicing and accounting software used by over 10 million small businesses and can do just about anything you need. You can automate invoices, track time, and organize expenses. It’s cloud-based, so customers can access it from anywhere. Pricing ranges from $15-50 per month. There is a free trial period available for all regular plans.

Find data entry work at freelance sites and freelance job sites

Job sites are a good place to look for data entry jobs but they often don’t pay well. One of the best ways to get data entry jobs is by promoting yourself on freelance sites. Build your profile and build a good reputation.

Here are some tips to get data entry work through freelance sites:

Job boards and freelance sites

Online job sites like Flexjobs, Upwork, and Working Nomads also list data entry jobs.

Using job boards is a good starting point to find freelance jobs. Unlike freelance sites, you don't need to bid on job boards. You respond to the ads. There are free and paid job boards.

When using freelance sites to find remote jobs from home, you choose your own clients and projects and run your own business.

The job boards and freelance sites below will give you a good idea of what kind of data entry jobs are out there.

  • Upwork is one of the best-known and largest freelance marketplace sites. Freelancers bid on jobs posted by clients. After completing your profile, Upwork will find ideal jobs for you. You can also search for projects and respond to client invitations.
  • Guru is an established and popular freelance site. It’s great for finding remote jobs in writing, translation, design, administration, sales, marketing, programming, and other jobs.
  • Freelancer – A freelance site where you can find just about any kind of remote jobs in technical, professional, and creative fields.
  • Working Nomads. Working Nomads is a remote job board with a curated list of reliable remote positions worldwide. You can find a variety of newly updated job postings every day. They seem to have more jobs in development, management, marketing, design, and sales than administrative jobs.
  • Fiverr.  You put up gigs on Fiverr and have clients come to you. Gigs range from $5 up to $500. Some people are making six figures a year on Fiverr.

Job aggregators

Job aggregators are search job engines that aggregate job postings from other sites. Your search will pull up results from many sites, job boards, newspaper job postings, company career pages, recruiter sites, and more. Instead of searching several job boards, you can just use one job aggregator, you’ll get more results and you’ll save a lot of time.

Indeed.com, the largest job search aggregator, aggregates job postings from job boards both online and offline. Jobs include contract positions and work-at-home jobs.

Other job aggregators include Simply Hired, CareerJet, LinkUp, LinkedIn Jobs, and JobRobot. You can read more details about those at my other blog post, Best Freelance Job Sites for Beginners.
